3v block and 2v heads?? NEED HELP!!

Hi folks, I really need some advice. Here's the scenario. I have a 2001 F250 with a spark plug issue, which is the reason I am the new owner. The PO wrecked the passenger head, and bought a 2005 3V motor with the misguided intent on doing the swap. So, I pulled the motor, sourced a used head on ebay (1c2e), and did the following to the now good pair; 3 angle valve job with new seals, milled, exhaust studs, and timeserts, all 10 holes. I decided to put the heads back on the 177,000 mile original short block, and leave the 49,000 mile 3V motor intact for another project, until i saw some scoring on cylinders 6,7 and 8. So, I pulled the heads off the 3V and, before setting my fresh heads on, noticed that the pistons sit a little higher in the bores. A real down and dirty check has the dome height in the newer motor at about .090" higher in the bore. So, the questions I have are will their be any piston to valve issues using 2V heads on a 3V block? Will their be any detonation issues with the resulting compression increase? Anything else to consider in doing this swap? I plan on put this thing together tomorrow, so time is of the essence. Thanks in advance.

Fellow FTE member "moto mel" has done this swap. I'm sure he'll help when he signs in. You might search him out and send him a message. It can be done without much problem.

With the stock cams, there's more than enough PTV clearance, even if your pistons were to actually touch the heads at TDC. There's just not enough duration to worry about. Did you check the dish size on the 3V pistons compared to the 2V pistons? Even though the pistons sit at a higher point, if the dish is larger, then the CR will be closer, or possibly the same.

dish size

Thanks for the response. The dish size (diameter)is nearly identical, but it sits in the bore about .090" higher than the 2V does. This will give me a healthy bump in CR. I'm in the process of finishing up assembly of the engine and will hopefully have it in the truck today. I also took the time to tape the install of timeserts in all 10 holes, and tape the install of the timing chains without any special tools. I will be posting these on u tube as soon as I get the truck running, and edit the files.
