Couldn't really see what was going on there. A proper test is done with a clean jar, place into that equal parts of your biodiesel and clean water, shake vigorously for about 10 seconds until it looks like cream of chicken soup, and allow to sit at room temperature for around 15-20 minutes. If soap free, it will separate into two phases. Crystal clear water on the bottom, and almost clear, but wet biodiesel on top, and absolutely nothing in between the two.

If it didn't pass the shake test with water, don't put it in your truck. It's either underconverted or it's soap.

Bio is in the truck, runs good. going to change the fuel filter, put about 200 miles on it with bio diesel mix so far. no you have your answer as to why i wanted to go bio so bad, 700 miles a week sucks!

Bought a Diaphram pump and a 50lbs bag of magnesol. got everythign ready for this weekends second batch.

***With the magnesol do you have to wash to get the methanol out? or can you just transfer to wash tank after draining glycerin and go for the magnseol?

Magnesol absorbs the Methanol that might be left, at least that was what I understood... Still need to update my pics. ARe you distilling it out after draining the Glycerol?

No i was planning on draining the glycerol, then immediatly transfering it over to the wash tank..that wouldnt work? here is my process so far -

1. Heat oil to boiling point(get out any water)
2. bring oil back down to 130
3. Over 20min introduce KOH and Methanol mix
4. Mix for 1.5 hours
5. do 3/27 test for completion of process (if fail mix till it passes)
6. Drain glycerin
7. move to wash tank add magnesol slowly mix for 30 min
8. let sit 12 hours siphon fuel off top of magnseol.

I used to do 12 hours also, but was advised to wait 24. Don also advised against heating to boiling, uses alot of energy among other things...

It will, but the way I understand it you will use around double the amount of Magnesol.

Sorry stupid mobilephone....

Double would be 2% per 100 liters? And what othjer option would I have to use less magnesol.

Sorry for so many questions, I just want to get this right

If you are not de-mething, the amound of Magnesol you need would be 2% of total biodiesel weight.

You can get away with 1% if you have good conversion and you de-meth.

I sure hope I am not too far off track here, being that this information is only what I have read here. Hopefully one of the experts will chime in soon. I plan to use Magnesol after I complete my new reactor.
