wheel weight placement??

i balance tires all day for a living. i was always under the impression that if you need more than one weight on a side that they should be butted up to each other, not one weight at say 12 oclock and one at 3 oclock. does anyone know about this or have a link to any material stating otherwise? thanks

Back when I was doing tires, you adjusted the weight position instead of adding random ones.

Right that's what I do, we have some people who think that it doesn't matter if there is weight all over the rim
