Hood shocks

Going to stick with the original hood hinges on the '55 and I was wondering if anyone has tried installing gas lift shocks as a helper or is it a worthwhile idea?

Not in my opinion. The problem many of us have with new hinges is the tendency for the rear of the hood to require a little push to settle it down where it belongs when you shut. I think the assist cylinders would only aggravate the problem.

That reminds me, have any of you ever closed your hood with a German guy singing the "Hood Hokey Pokey" in the background? I didn't think so

'fenders,

Speaking of Hokey Pokey, I heard the other day that the guy who wrote that passed away last week at the ripe old age of 93. When they put him in his coffin, they put his left leg in...and then the trouble started!

Hmmm, what other "music" did you and Kai make during your visit? (not that there's anything wrong with that!!!) LOL

I'm not sure why you want to add the shocks. My hood springs are a little too strong as far as I am concerned. They are 2 years old. Get too much tension and you are going to bind the hinges on the way down and bend your hood at the back where it's a little weak.

Alrighty then. I won't attempt it.I had thought that part of the problem with these hoods was that the springs weren't strong enough to pick them up.I am not far enough on my project yet to have experienced the hood problems, but I am getting ready to paint and install the sheet metal soon.

I thank you for your help.

I agree with Fenders about the hood and possible bending. I fabbed a rod to hold mine up. That way I am not unduly stressing my hinges or myhead when the confounded hood drops down onto my old noggin. Course it doesn't seem to hurt my head when it falls ...except for this ringing sound...and the headaches..and blood......
