how much does this cost and how do you get a test tube? do they tell you the size of the particles they find? do they show if theres bearing material or crank material in there? i know the regular oil filter is 15 microns or so, but the oil bypass will let some through larger than that. what if i plug up the oil bypass and put a larger oil filter on there like a b99, do you have to dent the oil pan to put a filter that big on there? i know i tried to put a caterpillar version of the b99 on my truck i think its a 1r 0716? i cant rememeber the number but it would not fit it was too big around. i have heard of people using b99 but does it fit without denting the oil pan? i know caterpillar makes a extra high efficiency version of the 1r 0716 that is like 5 or 6 microns maybe that would be better filtration? or just leave it alone?? lol i know its doing good already and i have seen crankshafts come out of 3-400,000 mile motors and the cranks still look brand new. the pistons wear out or injectors wear and make pistons hot and gald usually before the bottom end goes right?
Hey I work at Caterpillar, you can go to your local CAT dealer and you can get the s.o.s. bottles from them, and I know that we charge customers like 12$ for a sample. and yes you will get a particle count, and a count of different elements and materials in the fluid, and they will also include possible recommendations if there is a problem or just a need of maintence.
and also we dont do particle counting on diesel engine oil because of the particulate matter, but if you were to get it done it doesnt pick up anything bigger than 15 micron i believe. but it will show bearing wear or foreign materials.
