I have a 89 full size bronco with a 4.9 litre 6, I was driving down the road and it died acted like I was out of fuel.I replaced fuel filter and checked fuel pump.and my rig still won't start where should I go from here ? plz.help
unhook the coil cable. take off the distributor cap and have someone turn the motor over, becarful of the fan. this is to make sure the rotor is turning. next would be making sure your getting spark from the coil and the plugs are getting spark.
when was the bronco tuned up last? start with the basics and think simple first.
I agree with the possibility of PIP if it died like you turned the key off. If you are getting PIP codes in continuous memory suspect either the ICM module or the pickup in the distributor if your wires, plugs, cap and rotor are good. Both may rear their ugly heads when warm. After a couple of rebuilt distributors I finally used a press and installed Motorcraft hall effect sensor. I suspect the rebuilders do no test them warm.
After pulling codes disassemble and clean grounds by the battery and by the diagnostic test connector and see if it starts.
