460 muffler suggestions???

I'm getting my exhaust put on next week and want some advice on what mufflers I should go with. It's a 76 f350 with a 460, and I just put new L&L shorty headers on it. It will be dual all the way back, and I want it to sound nice. I'm thinking glass packs????

Glasspacks are fine. It's up to you. Personally, I decided against glasspacks because the fiberglass degrades over time. Instead, I went with Moroso Spiral Flows... compact fully welded straight through design, and no fiberglass to crumble. Kinda loud but the noise will be behind you.

For a 460, I recommend no less than 2.5-inch mandrel bent tubing. If you can fab, I suggest using Jeg's Street Rod tubing kit... nice smooth bends to maintain exhaust velocity and therefore, efficiency.

Noise doesnt bother me!! I want it loud but a nice loud. I want it to sound like a big block ford, not a 6 cylinder with no mufflers. My muffler guy said something about using 2 1/4 inch pipe, that sound too small?? I'll have to check into those Moroso's.

Well then!! My other option was Dynomax Race Bullets... Summit PN WLK-24215. According to the stuff printed in the Summit catalog, the Spiral Flows are 5-7 dBA lower than open headers and the Race Bullets are 2-4 dBA lower than open headers. Your make the call.

2.25 is too small IMO... Go 2.5 or bigger or go home!!! Muhahahahaha....

your exhaust guy must not like it loud then. they sounded great on mine. have ran em that way on everything i have owned. all it does instead of getting the sound that glass makes when you let off the gas and the backpressure hits the glass it makes that sound when your hitting the gas so its just louder more often unless you dont hit the gas to drive. like i said if you like it loud its the way to go.

With my 460 I'm going run flowmaster super 10's no packing to blow out and they should be loud but a good loud. I'm running super 44's now and can't hear them unless I stomp on the gas.

Burt's 460 has dual 44" (yup, 44")old school Blue Streak Glass packs. I've not Blue Streak around since I put them on though, and since I don't drive him much they have lasted over 10 years. I LOVE the sound of them. Not too loud and nice and throaty with that "pockata pockata pockata pockata" sound.. :-)

HAHA!!!! Thats great...."pockata pockata"! Ive never seen someone put it like that but I think thats the sound I'm going for! When I got the truck it had long tube headers and what I believe was flowmasters. I couldnt even hear the thing. I Definetly want a throaty sounding exhaust. Never been a huge fan of the loud snapping exhaust. Love the loud throaty tone.

IMO this is the best sounding exhaust.

and here is a chart for reference, so basically, go with 2.5" dual pipes if your 460 is stock because i don't feel like scrolling up to check.

scroll down a little bit and you'll see what horsepower 460 gets what for an exhaust:
