I have finally climbed out of my cave from the winters hibernation. I am looking for a decent trim ring for my gauge cluster, I have one but as you know need 2. Most of the ones I have seen for sale are somewhat rusty but hope someone has a decent one kicking around.
How do you get them off without destroying them? I've used a screwdriver , going around the rim, bending up a section at a time, it just ruins them. There must be a tool, sort of like a tire machine?
Been there, done that. I've repaired several old motorcycle gauges in the manner you describe and you can never press them back good enough. I'm sure that at the factory they had something that "rolled" the edges around to make the crimp
Mine actually wern't rolled on, they were just crimped in 2 or 4 spots, all I had to do was slightly bend them out and then it just poped right off
I've taken a few apart to reset the odometer to zeros and never had a problem with removing the trim ring. All of them have been attached in the manner described above.
I have had no problem removing them. I may have to get them re-chromed but it is expensive here in Canada, I got a price of $300 to do my vent window frames. If I lived closer to Mexico it would be good. I bought a set of gauges and bezzels off E-bay but I don't think I will use them, going to stick with the stock gauges.
