On the drive back I had all kinds of problems. First and most important, I was pushin the redline on the tranny, barely going 60. Boost was at 10-12, and that was a fast as I could go. When I took it out of over drive I cooled the tranny a little, but the rpms of course were at 2800. So my main question is what wrong with my truck. Is this the top speed I can expect from my truck. It only an 8500 lbs trailer. Worde off I had to go thru a litle pass on the way home nothing major and top speed was 40. I dont know a whole lot but I dont think this sounds right.

Second major problem is I only got 6mpg on the way home. Thats dismal. Please any and all thoughts, comment would be a huge help. I love my truck but the wife says that if I cant get the mpg up and if the truch cant preform better we're gunna have to trade it in. Please help guys. Thanks in advance
Do you have a pyrometer/EGT gauge? If so, what were your numbers. If not, get one!

How long have you owned your truck? These older trucks are not as fast as the new ones, so don't expect to try and keep up with them.
Remember, you're towing 8,500 pound trailer + somewhere around 7,000 pounds worth of truck for a total somewhere around 15-16k pounds. Don't expect it to be a Mustang, but it'll get the job done!

Towing in overdrive will certainly increase the temperatures. Don't tow in OD. Get a large capacity cooler and plumb it in AFTER the factory cooler in the radiator. You need the water-to-air cooler first, the extra air-to-air cooler after that will definetly help cool 'er down.

I don't really see what you're ticked about. If you keep your foot out of the throttle and go slower, you'll definetly increase your MPG's. Don't expect a new truck that goes faster to get better MPG's.

Even at 6 MPG, the fuel bill is cheaper than the cost of a new truck...and don't expect a newer truck to get much better MPG's.

I think you're due for an Injection Pump and new injectors. Not to worry, $800 for the entire fuel system is the same as the HPOP pump and 1.5 injectors for a 7.3 Powerstroke...$400 for an HPOP and $250 EACH for injectors. Oh yeah, you need 8 injectors...

Injection pump, new injectors, a fresh fuel filter, get it timed, and you'll be in good shape.
