#2 - 145
#3 - 147
#4 - 175

As far as I know as long as all the cylinders are with in 20% of each other everything is fine. So with those numbers I wouldn't worry

i have never seen 6 cylinders that are low and exactly the same, and the other 2 higher but exactly the same. what would cause EVEN compression loss on 3 cylinders per side?

have any body heard of a "wet or dry" test? You can do the test wet and dry. Check the lbs. dry and then give a little shot of oil in the plug hole and check the lbs. If the pressure goes up wet, then the rings are losing the pressure. If the pressure is the same wet or dry, then it's a good chance that it needs a valve job

Yes your right , if the wet test shows more comp , that tells you the rings or clylinders are worn.....

never hear of that till i researched. i will try this later today. the intake manifold is off the truck so it can not run. how bad is it to do a compression test on a cold motor? and how much oil should i put in the cylinder?

alright. finally got to work on the truck. did a compression test dry and wet one some. here results

#1 - 155 d
#2 - 160 d
#3 - 140 d, 140 w
#4 - 180 d
#5 - 179 d
#6 - 155 d, 155 w
#7 - 130 d, 130 w
#8 - 156

well there are some numbers that are too low and didnt change when i did a wet test. So, hopefully it is in the valves.

machine shop says the head are perfect.. so if the head are good and the wet test shows it is not in the cylinder then what could it be?

Why are you checking compression?
There numbers are fine.
The 2 in the 170's are probably carboned up.
