hi i was wondering if any '80-'96 Bronco's came in 2 wheel drive???b/c i just seen 1 online that was lowered and 2wd and i didnt know if it was stock or converted from 4x4 b/c there wasn't much that was.... if anyone out there know's tell me thanks
That poor Bronco. Buy it and give it it's cahoneys back! If someone wants a 2-door station wagon, go find a Nomad. Leave the Bronco alone! Ford never distributed a 2WD full-size Bronco in the U.S. Rumors of Mexican/South American 2WD units are rampant. Perhaps Encho can shed some light on that front.
If it truly is 2WD it has been emasculated at a good deal of expense for reasons that I am certain make sense ONLY to the person responsible for the atrocity. 4WD is part and parcel to the Bronco name plate. From the first 1966 unit to the last 1996 unit, 4WD was a given. Its why there is no "4x4" decal on the rear quarter panels of the Bronco and there were on the F-series. No point in slapping "4x4" on something that doesn't come any other way.
(This is why the Bronco II gets lumped in with the Rangers. It was available 2WD but the irony is that the 2WD units still have a transfer case... it just has no guts, just a stub shaft connecting the transmission to the same rear driveshaft that came in the 4WD units).
Was that response over the top guys? I try to remain calm when this question comes up but I get carried away.
As Grey stated, it's no rumor, 2WD Broncos were made and sold in Venezuela and Colombia, of those two i'm sure. Actually, for the first 3 production years there were no 4WD models, except for the Silver Anniversary edition. Mine was the first model with the V8 and 4WD in the country (Ven). Those 2WD were 2WD in the same way the Bronco II was, a transfer case with no guts.
And Grey, you were corrected on this statement already: "Its why there is no "4x4" decal on the rear quarter panels of the Bronco and there were on the F-series. No point in slapping "4x4" on something that doesn't come any other way" i remember someone posting a link or pic. Some of the older Broncos had some sort of 4WD or 4x4 marked somewhere. And well, mine is an export, but it does have a 4x4 plate in the tailgate.

hi i see u answering a lot of questions it seems like u know a lot... anyhow just wondering y did u guys get 2WD models down there don't u need 4x4 very often? how often do u use ur? did yins produce many of ur own or where they all exports??? if yins did produce them where there many differences??? and do yins have many FORDs down that way??? just trying 2 learn a little thanks
Hey there, we do have a lot of places where 4WD is required, if you like traveling and need/want a capable vehicle, once the 4WD became available its sales quickly surpassed that of the 2WD model. It's not like we have many dirt roads, it's only on the countryside where you'll find those. I do like traveling and off-roading a lot, check my gallery, i haven't updated it in a while, but you'll get an idea... I don't get the term "yins", please explain.
In my country, sadly, we have no local auto-makers, but we do have several assembly plants from many brands, Americans, Asians, Europeans. And some other dealers that just sell vehicles imported from other countries, just as in the US. About Ford's sales around here, i think it's number 2 or 3 in sales, sharing the top 3 with GM and Toyota.

thats what i meant i should have been more clear... so did your country assemble many FORD vehicle from the '30s-'96 or where most of those imports.... i dont mean 2 be rude asking if im coming off that way but i never realized that the US export many vehicle's it usually the other way around haha...
Almost every Ford model available (right now EVERY model) is assembled locally, ever since the plant was installed in 1962, and they keep assembling vehicles right now, several of them models never reached the US.

do u happen 2 know the models names so that i can google them just 2 see whats all out there... i knew that Europe and Australia has their own FORDs that never hit the US and some have shared the same names but where totally different....
Ford Sierra, Escort, Corcel, Festiva, Laser, 3 gens of Fiestas (we have a different one from the one in the US), Ka, Cargo 815 and 1721... Those are the ones i recall right now, have a blast.

I will yield that the 87-91 models DID have the chrome "4x4" emblem between a headlamp and the bumper on the nose. I chalk that off to the fact that the front clips for Broncos and F-series 4WD trucks were most likely assembled at the same time/same place. I am unaware of any Bronco that had the big obnoxious "4x4" on the rear quarter like the F-series did.
