I just bought a USB727 aircard for my laptop. I have set up a pre pay plan with Verizon. I can buy 1, 7, or 30 days service but I am limited on data. 100mg for the one day, 300 mg for the week, and either 1g or 5g for the month.
So how much data do I use browsing the KS chapter? Anyone know? I would guess if I check it then back out and check something else I would use more data when I returned several minutes later. And I'd use more data viewing posts. Do I get dinged when I use the back button and go back to a page?
I'd go with the 1g or 5g... that way you'll have plenty of data transfer without getting charged out the yingyang for going over. You never know when someone here will post at length about their favorite roadkill recipe and you'll be so drawn in you'll do a reply to everyones reply... which can add up quick!
p.s. I have an unlimited data plan and use between 1 to 3g a month...
Jack just checking FTE won't use much Broadband it's when you say watch a movie online or download a movie or watch video's on youtube is when you use alot of broadband Chad might have a proper answer than i.
Guess I left out some portant info. I don't pay for this unless I call in and pre pay for it. I have home access with my cable provider. This will be for when I go out of town and camp out on public land. I have used unprotected wifi in towns but that can eat up a lot of time looking for it and most times it's hard to see the puter screen in the truck during the day when we are going through town. Much easier on my eyes during the evening after supper and fore the campfire to conect and check in with folks. That way I can get out of town as soon as possible. And I try to find the lowest cost motels to stay in the few times I use them. So wifi service can be hit or miss. Was on a trip year fore last and was out 22 nights. 19 of those nights were in my tent sleeping on the ground.
Just wondering how this site does on data usage. I know it's big and to try stay away from the super big treads and if possible ones with attachments. I leave for Nashville tomorrow. Guess I could burn $30 and see how it does.

I get some of those clips linked to in e-mails. So I'll stay away form them thanks. The only thing I watch on the puter is if I miss a new NCIS show on tuesday night. Then I watch it online wednesday or after. They keep them up for two weeks so I could work around that and find wifi if needed.
NCIS is on regular broadcast tv. So the only time I miss it is if I'm somewhere without tv or if folks just have ta do stuff and involve me tuesday evening between 7-8 PM.

I suppose stealing is the new buying for you in 2011?
I would say that he would probably be safe with the 3 GB plan if he doesn't plan on streaming audio or video. Browsing the web takes very little data throughput.
Just for small trips and only checking email (without opening attachaments) for just a day or three-- 1g should be plenty fine. 3 gig for a longer trip. 5 gig for a whole month. I typically use in the neighborhood of 7 gig a month-- but my wife is a computer person too-- so 3-5 should do you just fine. As long as you are not downloading NCIS or "Big Boobed Women from Planet Venus" (full movies or TV shows) you should be fine with the smaller plans.
My advice is try a medium plan and see if you need more or use less.
The place I stayed at last night had trouble. The air card would connect but had no bars of signal. My cell just had one bar and I was cutting out trying to call in to pre pay on my card to give it a test drive.
Larry gave me his and it would not stay connected and he could not get connected either. Signal was too week.
As I have cable access at home for stuff as I said I wait for tasks till I get home. Just trying to get an idea what I would be able to do with 100mg or 300mg.
I intend to take it to Utah in May and if I have cell service at camp I will call in and buy most likely a week. Kind of carry it as a back up if it will work when I am not in a motel or near a library. Many times when we get showers the campgrounds will let me check stuff if I have time waiting for an available shower.
The idea was to be able to check the boards to see what is going on and maybe even post instead of calling some one and having them post updates. Guess I find out when I am able to test drive it. The aircard just cost me $15. I could pre pay for a week and hope to use it for at least 3 of the days.
