Posted a message over on the 6.7L Diesel forum asking what to check out and what to look out for before taking delivery of my new 2011 F-350. Would appreciate any advice from this group as well. Thanks.
first things first cancel the order ;-) diesel fuel is going to be seven dollars a gallon by the end of the month, so a friend claims who works in the oil industry. All kidding aside just the usuals look for any hidden damage or damaged rims which of course they'll claim you did the minute you left the lot. Go over the fluid levels I found my new truck delivered a quart of oil down I wasn't pleased. also don't hesitate to ask any questions if this is your first diesel vehicle as far as draining water off the filter on the bottom and any other concerns you might have, don't bring the kids it'll just be more distractions trust me. take care and congratulations
Take it for a test drive and make sure it's up to your satisfaction (ride, etc). If you're getting the diesel, ask if they filled up the DEF. I don't know if they have to, but it's nice when they do (or so I've heard).
It's the dealers responsibility to setup the BT, Sirius, etc. If they don't, make them. Radium was right, don't bring kids. I was in a wicked hurry when I purchased my truck (3yo and 1yo + 9pm at dealer=fail) so when I got in, my sales guy synced everything up really fast and got me on the road.
I've had to go back for a couple of minor things (only issue is scratched glass on moonroof), everything else has been accy's I ordered that weren't in yet.
If you have a copy of your DORA, it'll list everything you've ordered. Go through it and make sure it's there physically on the truck. Taking receipt of the truck and noticing it didn't have the heated/cooled seats you ordered would be enough for me to pass it up. If you want a really detailed checklist, pm your email address and I'll send you a word doc I found on the web that's borderline OCD...
Also, call your dealer every Friday and pest him for an update (whether it's VIN assignment, build date, ETA, etc). I had to get on mine about getting the VIN assigned. After that, I just contacted Ford directly, gave them my VIN and asked for a status.

Hey, I'm borderline OCD. I'll be happy to get a list like that.

it is post #21. I hope it helps you avoid some the problems I ran into.
It's too late to make any changes once your VIN numbers shows up online. You have to catch it earlier. Have your dealer print out the DORA (dealer order receipt acknowledgement) for you. Once you get that, go through it and compare it with the order guide (can download here). If they messed up, they can still make changes and you don't lose any waiting time.
