Cause there just off the shelf tunes for all 7.3 they are not custom tunes

Exactly, you get what you pay for. It takes man hours to sit down and program a chip, not to mention the software. I'm not saying that $600 is a far price (it's a bit pricey) but if you're dialing in a truck that had big oil, sticks, built trans etc.. I could see spending the money. Otherwise an 'off the shelf' chip would be a reasonable option for most, and can always be customized down the road.

Also don't really see the need for 6+ settings, Lets be honest, 3 or 4 would probably do for most. An econ, tow, hot street. and 'go-baby-go' setting are all most need, and for some would spend 90% of the time on econ setting anyways (econ or whatever they're calling it these days).

I've got an off the shelf unit, but will get a custom from PHP as soon as the cash tree ripens. For a stock truck, why not. If you've got upgrades, then go custom. Why not spend a bit more to get something that's actually set up for your truck, not your neighbor's. And Robb, there's the high idle setting too. That one I need way up north. Don't forget that. Not to mention light and heavy tow as opposed to just 1.

Very true. I guess I was getting at the fact that if you're going to pay per tune... be sure you're gonna use 'em or else it's money down the drain.

Please explain the reburn yourself statement? Is it Jim at Rosewood who does the PHP's? I have the TW which has free reburns but waiting for weeks on end is maddening. Do all the above mentioned chip suppliers charge for reburns?

Also, I never understood the 'custom' thing about chips. Sure, you can tell them all about your truck and mods but doesn't the real 'custom' tunes come from live dyno tuning?

Hey Glenn, I think Jim does still sell the php chips. That is where I got mine. He did a free reburn for me last fall. Sent the chip on monday, had it back thursday. Granted I'm close, but that is good service.

That touchy pedal took me a couple days to get used to. And I learned to turn it back to stock offroad. I was driving across my pasture and bouncing a bit and it was way too hard to control the throttle. I just switched it to stock and was fine. I really like it on the road though. It just takes some getting used to. So far my egt has only gotten to 1000 since I installed the chip. That's just normal driving and a few fast starts trying to get into the crazy traffic on the highway. I think that was how I hit 1000 degrees. My trucks kinda heavy too. I have a 1500 pound tool box/fuel tank in the bed. Merging into traffic is easy now as far as power is concerned. I just need to get my intercooler in soon before we go towing.

Tony's tunes are a bit hot in that respect.

like the PHP tunes let you have a stockish throttle towards the beginning and when you press it down a bit more the fuel lays in.
Tony only programs in 0's and 1's.
So, fuels either Off or On.
(little computer joke for you guys)

I might get to try out the tow tune next week. It depends on if a guy takes my offer on his 5th wheel or not. That tune is a tire burner empty!!!!

You'll play with it for another month, then use like 2 of the 4 tunes.
