Wow! I can't believe I found this site, the information is great. I must confess I haven't owned a Ford for several years but I just bought a nice-looking black 1988 full-size Bronco XLT w/302, auto w/od, pushbutton 4WD, auto locking hubs (I've read what most think about them), 31x10.50's and totally stock. I have a ton of questions for you guys. I'll try not to ask them all at once but please be patient. First and foremost, I'm trying to figure out the emissions system. Almost sounds like a manifold leak at lower throttle but if you stand on it sounds like it seals up, my guess is the EGR valve but I'd like your opinions. Well I'll just start with that but I've got plenty more questions. Thanks!

Get a Haynes manual, pull the codes, and check your vacuum at idle. A compression test is also a good indication of general engine condition.
