Gauges

I have a 77 f100 with the factory electric gauges. Do yall know if its possible to replace the electric gauges with mechanical. What I am gettin at is can you put mechanical in factory gauge cluster or do you have to do the sun pro under the dash?

It all depends on how involved you want to get. I put 1 1/4" Autometer gauges in the factory holes of an '81 Chevy truck. I also put aftermarket gauges in a '71 Camaro in the factory locations. It's a bit involved and there's some fab work that needs to be done, but yes, it can be done. Just understand, you're not going to pop out the old factory gauges and slide in new, aftermarket gauges. It doesn't work like that.

The problem with trying to get aftermarket guages to work in a dent cluster is the aftermarket guages are round, the holes in the cluster for the guages to show thru are rectangular. It just wouldnt work out well. Ive done the aftermarket guages in a couple of 70's chevs as well (74 C10 truck, and '72 Chevelle) but they have round holes in the cluster to start with. Its not easy but can be done. There are aftermarket guage panels available for our dents which relplace the entire cluster they are available in either analog or digital style guages. You could also build your own panel. I had pics of one I really liked that a guy had built but, my computer crashed and I lost them. Google it and Im sure you'll come up with some ideas.........

Dolphin Gauges makes a billet gauge holder for our trucks, they also sell gauges as well.

I just installed the whole kit and it was relatively easy. I did not have time to properly mount it so will go back and finish it someday.
