Awesome! I am definitely going to drive down to this event.

Thanks for posting; I never would have known about this otherwise.

Opinions matter

So of all those who attended the Swap Meet, what was your opinion? Keep in mind this was the first one held at this location.
Was timing an issue?...... GoodGuy's show at De Mar same time.
Location?........ Can't be seen from freeway.
Advertisement..... Was it advertised right?

My opinion is: First one to early to tell. However as mentioned above. Better advertisement needed. If a major event is happening elsewhere, think of attendance. Other events, GoodGuy's show at De Mar is an established event and a lot of people planned to attend this show for months in advance.

What can be done to improve this event? Should the Swapmeet be held at the same time as the F100 Western Nationals?
I know Classic Pickups Garage as well as Pickupslimited would want to know this information. Tips on future Swapmeets should be listened to. I would like to see this SwapMeet continue but based on yesterdays attendance it may not.
Opinions Please:

New location badly needed if this event is ever going to be worth a damn.

1) Gopher ridden uneven dirt/some grass ground is a PITA to negotiate. More dips than there are at a pick-pocketer's convention.

2) Location hidden from view of people passing by on the 91 freeway, which means only people that are aware of this meet will be there.

3) Poorly laid out swap meet spaces. Some people had enough room to hold a convention. Others (like yourself) had next to no room.

4) Two bathrooms total...at the RV lodge (this is an RV park in case y'all are unaware). No "Here's Johnny" chemical toilets. If ya had ta go...you had ta wait!

5) One tiny place to buy food out towards the 'back forty' and the choices were limited.

6) Advertisments? What advertisments? I checked the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that has a weekly column of all the coming events. Not a thing...kinda ironic since Ed lives in the area.

The swap meet should be held at the same time as the show, but this location is waaay too small to accomodate swap meeters, all the trucks that show up...and the spectators.

Parking for spectators is limited, and most of it is on a dusty lot.

La Palma Park in Anaheim would be a far better location, but spectator parking is limited.

What is needed is a large commercial paved parking lot, and if the event is held on a Sunday, a bank parking lot would be ideal. Other possibles, having it at a school parking lot.

The Model T Club of Long Beach put on the very first swap meets in SoCal. Before the Pomona swap meet became a factor, this was the premiere event on the West Coast.

The first swap meets were held at Southern Park in South Gate (1965: this was the first swap meet I ever attended).

Then the swap meet moved to the Hamilton Bowl in Long Beach, which was a nothing more than a horrid dusty hole in the ground. Very similar to this events present location in Featherly Park.

Then the meet moved to a Long Beach college parking lot, there was more than enough room for everyone.

Harrah's swap meet and car show was held at a Sparks NV (suburb of Reno) high school thru 1977, used the school's athletic field and parking lot.

T'was enough room for the 10's of 1000's of spectators, swap meeters and all the vehicles at the car show

I was a seller at everyone of these meets (beginning in 1965), and made a pile of dough.
