knocking noise

knocking noise

while driveing my 2005 f350 yesterday I heard a loud knock when i let off the fuel. Thought it was a u joint flopping around after looking nothing. Seemed to be coming form the rear end took back cover off changed fluid did not notice any thing wrong while on stand spun tires all seems fine put it back together same thing seems to be coming from right side and only when letoff accelerator

anybody have an idea what could have caused this

It is an automatic trans. It is louder at different times. Seems faster and slower depending on speed, really sounds like a u joint. More like a bang than a knock.
