Hi Everyone: I have a 1994 F-350 IDI turbo an I was walking around my truck the other day an I can smell Diesel so I went looking an found that my IP pump is wet with fuel but it is not any fuel dripping my valley pan is dry , I have checked all my fuel lines an there good , I can feel that there is a plug on the underside an that is were it is the wettest the front of the IP is dry , if I let my truck sit for a while the IP will be dry so it only getting wet when I drive it . My question is do I need to replace my IP . Thank you Rick
if it isnt soaking the valley pan then you have a bit of time but i would also check the lines and the little triangle cap. Have you ever turned your fuel up or messed with that? It sounds just like a small seep for now but check all around and see first.
If the valley isn't wet at all it could be the return line on top seeping fuel and soaking the whole pump. Is the whole pump wet or just the drivers/pass. side??
Sounds like the advance piston assembly is leaking, mine did the same thing - it's my understanding this is a fairly common failure, not sure if it's fixable or a new pump is in order for you...
