Ok, I recently bought a Power+Plus Intake and a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb, Installing on my 302. I took out the vacuum tree on the old intake and installed it in the new one, and there is also somthing that looks like a vacuum tree but, the end that goes into the intake goes where the water runs (like a temp. guage) and it was hooked up to my stock carb. I was wondering if it is some kind of heat activated vacuum advance of some sort...? If it is what do I hook it to? Or if it is for blocking off hoses because no air can go in or out of it, yet it has places for hoses? Also the Edelbrock carb I bought came with hardly anything for a manual... I was wondering if there is a specific place for the vacuum lines, or can I just hook them straight into the Intake Vacuum tree?
Your carb actually came witha wonderful manual on the carb and how to tune it for maximum performance. It identifies all the ports on the carb. It is up to you to use the vacuum diagram for your vehicle or the repair manual to hook up the components again. The carb manual couldn't possibly tell you how to do that.
There are very specific points to hook all the vacuum lines to.
You can find vacuum diagrams at: www.autozone.com
Use the vehicle specific repair guide section.

Racerdave, that is called a TVS (temperature vacuum switch), and it does indeed control the vacuum advance according to engine temperature. The switch is closed at cold temps, and opens up at normal operating temp. It's purpose was to reduce emissions. Since your setup is not emissions legal, I would just leave it off.
Do not connect your vacuum advance to the vacuum tree. There is a port on the Edlebrock that is horizontal to the throttle plate; connect the v.a. there and run it directly to the distributor. The port should have no vacuum at idle, then progressively more vacuum as the throttle is advanced.
The PCV hose will connect to either the large fitting on the carb bottom, or a fitting on the spacer. It is larger than the other vacuum ports. Good luck. _______
Ok... So... I guess I can take out the vacuum tree and plug it? It is not hooked into anything... The only lines are PCV and Distributor Advance and I have both of them hooked up right, I wasnt really thinking when I put it in that I have electronic choke now and dont need the lines anymore..... Oh and One more thing, I heard of people drilling and taping a hole in the carb spacer for the PCV? Dont they know that they can just hook it to the carb? Or is there a reason for this?
Ok I just eliminated my EGR and most of my emissions, and installed a new carb -edl 600, and new intake Power+Plus.
If I wanted to clean up the air, is it possible to go back to EGR with the setup that I have now?
I was told I can just add a Temp. controled vacuum advance in my intake and put an EGR Spacer and valve back on and hook it all back up and it will help my emissions. I am asking because I might be moving to a emissions controled area.... Up where I live now its all farm towns and they dont care.???
No just adding an EGR plate will not work. The intake manifold that you have doesn't have the EGR passage in it. It would not function. It it would seal to your intake, it would probably pass the visual inspection, but you may have some vacuum leaks due to the way that the spacer is shaped in the rear. The front left port on your carb is for the vacuum advance. The other one can be used for the tranny or something that needs manifold vacuum. Plug the vacuum tree in the front water passage. It is ugly and you really don't need it. If you have power brakes, you can use the rear vac. tree for the brakes and tranny. Hook the PCV to the carb and plug the right front port on the carb.

The TVS port is a great place to install the sensor for a mechanical water temp guage. I have a mechanical Autometer water temp guage hooked into TVS port. This allows you to keep the factory electric guage, while having a "real" water temp guage.
YES! I got everything together yesterday and started her up with a fresh battery! turnd her over a couple of times and she fired up, jumped under the hood and started playing with the dizzy and idle screw... got her running as good as I could, but if I push on the gas suddenly it dies, is that because of my fuel pump? I was told I would need a holley fuel pump, and I am planing on buying one if I need one? Also If I slowly press on the throttle and bring up the RPM's it starts to missfire, (only somtimes). And sometimes it does fine going up RPM's but if I suddenly let off the gas it missfires? I know these things werent normal so I didnt do it again and again to see if they would stop, I shut her off and went through the carb manual. didnt see anything on it, so I was just going to start her up today and do a vacum test on everything. I dont think that would be my problem but I like to check vacuum when installing new things like this. Next option is to drive her to a shop and have a diagnostic from the head mech. Or if you guys could help me out I would be greatfull, all I need to know is how to go about it and where to start looking, I was thinking spark plugs?
recheck you plug wires for firing order as well, Ya never know. Sounds like an accelerator pump problem. Could be a low float level problem too. Running too lean? You shouldn't need a high output fuel pump. Yours could be weak though. I have also seen the cam ecentrics wear and not give the proper pump stroke. Also check to make sure that the pump arm is not bent and that the return spring on it isn't broken.

I am an idiot.... I looked everywhere for them, finaly I gave up and posted a question on here asking where they are located.... right after I posted I went outside grabed a can of degreaser and sprayed off the thick coat of grease and dirt off everything, and whala... there they were! I bought a timint light last night and am going to time her with the light when the rain stops. Also, I figured out part of my carb problem, I didnt notice there was a port open on the carb that I hadnt pluged, in the very back, what suprised me was I couldnt hear it drawing air through the hole? but I made sure it had vacuum, stuck my finger over it and it gave me a hickey! I pluged it and it ran 10 times better, but it still missfires, (not nearly as bad since I pluged it), I checked my vacuum advance on my dizzy, thinking it might be sticking, but it is fine. My gas pump is keeping up with the carb, could it be a mixture problem? I almost want to say its not geting enough gas or its geting too much? I have the manual and it shows how to tune the A/F ratio. I will work on it and see wht happens, is there anything I need to be carefull about?
