Im new on here and ive searched for this problem but could not find it. My 1991 7.3idi hydrolocked overnight after i drove it 300 miles. when i pulled the glow plugs it blew water out of cylinder #2. Before it did that i have noticed water disappearing but never new where it was going. Would a head gasket cause that. any input would be helpful thanks.
I am hoping it is the head gasket. It only has 84,000 miles on it right now. Im going to school for diesel technology but im still new to the idi and i know that cavitation is really bad
how long have you had it? you run sca's in the coolant? cavitation can set in quick if it hasn't been taken care of with sca's or elc. well, heres a good question that will lean you towards head gasket or cavitation..... what cylinder hydrolocked? if its #1-#6 my guess would be head gasket. if its #7-#8 then id put my money on cavitation
The #4 cylinder (the second back on the driver side) was the one with water in it. I have had the truck for about 4-5000 miles and i have put sca in since i have had it.
I had the same thing happen a week ago +using coolant, havent dug into it yet but Im pretty sure..hopefully..maybe..its a head gasket. mines on the pass side. 160k, Still driving it, hasnt happened again(yet).
Please update when you figure it out.
I have not torn mine down either. Does anybody know a site to get better head gaskets then the stock ones. After i replace the head gaskets i will be putting a turbo on so i was hoping to maybe get some better ones.
id wait until you find out if its block worm or gasket though.
X2 on Victor Reinz, FABULOUS gaskets. The only brand I use. I've got Victor Reinz: head gaskets in the 85 IDI, valley pan in the 85 IDI, exhaust manifold gaskets in the 85 IDI, head gasket on the 84 CJ7 258, Intake/Exhaust manifold gaskets on the 84 CJ7 258. I could keep going, but I imagine you see my testimonial. I love Victor Reinz.
The gasket job is alot easier with the motor out of the truck. It doesnt sound like but it is. and if you stud it its almos impossible to get the head back on with the motor in the truck. And if it cavitated it has to come out anyway
