Frames

Anyone know what frames are identical? I have 55, 56, and 54 frames. Are they interchangeable?

Thanks,

David

My understanding is yes, sort of. The frames are interchangeable, but the rear springs on 53s and 54s are a different size from the springs on 55s and 56s. other than that they are the same.

55-56 rear springs are longer. 53-55 have the gas tank mounts on the left running board braces. 56 battery tray is longer and narrower. Actual frames are the same dimensions.

Ok Looking at part numbers it looks like rear springs are 48-52 53-54 and 55-56

Thanks a lot guys!! I would have never thought about the springs. Looks like my 56 will be sitting on a 55

as noted the 53 and 54 have shorter in length rear springs , and one end or the other the shock mounts are different , just can't recall which . shouldn't make a difference though as long as your using the stuff that's there on the frame or buy all the needed parts from one of the many peeps selling parts for one year or another i.e. no mix 'n' match . otherwise same dain frame . you can put the 55 - 56 rear springs on as in the case of my "new" 53 frame the holes are there to put them on if i so desired , or just mark and drill . longer length springs ride better you know ..................

I'm definately wanting the better ride! I'll most likely end up removing every other leaf on the springs also. We shall see. I'm going to go with the 55 frame I think.

anyone have a bead on how much these frames would be worth?

Stock, bare rames I've seen typically go from free to $350, depending on condition and location, and how bad the seller wants to part with it.

Just as a word of caution, since the serial number stamped on the frame is the legal VIN of the vehicle, when doing a frame swap, have your paperwork in order to prevent title/inspection/impound problems in the future.

I'm going to just register and title that 55 frame. The year on the title doesn't bother me so much and I haven't titled my truck as it is. My 56 will always be a 56.

Is there something wrong with your 56 frame that you've decided not to use it for your 56, why are you going to use the 55 or is that the one that is painted already?
