I have a question for the experts on the dashes of the basic version of the 66 F100. I had horrible looking hole in my dash. I got someone to weld it shut. Did all F100's have a hole for a radio, or were there smooth dashes from the factory?
I have seen them both. I have a pic of a customcab with no radio. I guess it depended upon what the buyer wanted as options. Or what the dealer had on the lot as options.
My 65 had NO hole...but still had the speaker grill on the top of the dash..it is/was basic package - lights, choke, heat, 2 speed wiper, SPeedo/fuel/temp/alt light...no door pockets or arm rests
A radio is optional equipment and is added at the dealer. The 65/66 dash is stamped with a speaker mount and grill. 61 to 64 do not have this stamping.
Radios came with a template to drill the five holes necessary to mount it.
61 to 64 dashed were cut by the dealer for the speaker with whatever they had laying around. I have seen square punches and round punches. Whatever greenlee they had did the trick.
I too have a larger hole in my dash from an after-market radio/CD...I've seen a lot of trucks in the yards that had
no radios...especially if it was a County or City vehicle. I've got an original Ford radio I'd like to install but also need
to repair the hole and then cut the proper 3 holes....it's only AM radio, but the only thing worth listening to on the
airwaves these days is Rush anyways.

Looks nice and smooth now. Mine didn't come with a radio but has a bunch of small holes there. Don't custom cabs have a padded dash? Do you have one? If not they are a nice inexpensive upgrade.

Padded dashes may have been an extra cost option, my 66 CustomCab has one but my 65 pictured above does not.

Mine isn't a custom cab, but it did have a torn up pad on it when I got it, and I am torn as whether to replace it. I had a 64 in the late 80's and I kinda liked the steel. I will figure that out later. For now I will stick with steel. I have a lot of body work to do, and several other things I put higher priorities on than that.
