Mine doesn't work, but the speedometer does. Is a junk yard my only option? What might be a cause for it to stop working? I've never messed with one of these before. Any help is appreciated.
75-92 Ford Econoline van gauge cluster should fit. there was a thread on here a while back bout parts that would work on 73-79 Ford trucks.
Not exactly right.
The Gauge clusters printed circuts and other parts are not completely interchangeable. Although you can mix and match most parts throughout these years, like fuel gauges, oil gauges etc... if you are doing a direct full cluster swap, then you have to match these years.
F-series with gauges:
1: 1973-1974
2: 1975 Before W40,001
3: 1975 After W40,001
3: 1976-1979
Bronco with gauges:
1: 1978-1979
Econoline with gauges:
1: 1975
2: 1976-1991
F-series with idiot lights:
1: 1973-1975
2: 1976-1978
3: 1979
Be aware that all clusters before 1981 can have cluster rot syndrome where the plastic like composite material turns to powder.
Also after 1976 the 100 MPH speedo was changed to a 85 MPH speedometer due to the lowering of the speed limit to 55 mph. So if you want a 100 mph speedometer you will need to get a cluster before 1977.
The 85 MPH speedo is swappable for a 100 MPH or visa versa with earlier years if you remove and swap the speedo only.
Also be aware that 1973-1974 and some 1975, 100 MPH speedometers do not have the hi beam light located in the speedometer.
Most all of the new aftermarket replacements are really expensive. My bud just replaced his whole cluster the other day and it works great. He used same year truck cluster from the parts yard. Im pretty sure you can change individual gaues but ive never done it and can imagine it being a pain.
No you can take the cluster apart and remove just the speedometer. I'm not sure of your location but I have a 100mph black speedometer that came out of a cluster that had the dreaded rot mentioned earlier.
The odometer is connected to the speedometer by a series of gears. It is all driven by the speedometer cable. As far as I know the odometer is not a serviceable unit. The speedometer connects into the cluster by (I believe) two screws. It is a fairly simple swap just be careful not to destroy the brittle cluster housing or printed circuit.
