In short, back in January, my 2002 7.3 died while idling. It wouldn't restart for some time then started acting normal for a day. The next day it would not start. I ordered AE from Clay, after he wouldn't allow me to replace what I thought was a bad IPR. After receiving AE, I realized Clay was correct. My issue was not IPR, CPS or Battery related.
After weeks of troubleshooting, ohming every wire I could find, trialling a good IDM and ohming every wire I could AGAIN.... I could not shake my P1667 code and no start/dying issue. My problem ended up being a broken connector on the PCM. A new PCM and she's as good as new.
Glad you found the problem Rich. Perseverance pays off. Thanks for posting what the problem was. Makes me fell better about havig a spare PCM in my truck.
Did you find the broken pin stuck in the female connector? Just curious.
It was frustrating to say the least. I feel the best thing I can do is share my experience with others.
Unfortunately, the pin was not broken on the external side of the connector. Best I can assume it was PCM pin # 96. Strangely enough, I was getting the P1667 with or without the IDM connected. It was definitely affected by hot/cold and vibration which is a classic sign of a broken solder joint (or moisture intrusion).
There are a lot more tests I would have liked to perform but I needed the truck back on the road.
