New Bronco, Questions, Problems, Fixes

Just bought it last night for $2950

1993 Bronco 5.8l. Not sure of the tranny. 178,000 miles.

Questions

1. Did some of these trucks come with LS? Seems like it has it, but not sure. I will climb under the rear end and check the axle tag later. Just wanted to ask if they even came with them.

2. Truck didnt come with a reese hitch. So i assume no tow package. Does that mean it doesnt have a tranny cooler either? Again i will verify later, just wanted some clarification. Also does ford make an adapter that i can hook up 7 pin trailer harness easily if the truck didnt have tow package.

3. Driver window doesnt work. Probably a switch? Is that a safe bet?

4. Rear window switch doesnt work. Probably a switch? Is that a safe bet? The rear window key works great.

5. The led in the back of the radio must be out. Because the screen doesnt work. Radio works fine. Is this something that can be repaird? I have no experiance with factory radios.

6. How much spacer behind the front bumper to clear 33" Tires? What size washer should i get. i ask this so i can buy them before i pull every thing apart.

7. Cup holder, I need 2, anybody have a set they can part with?

8. Remote entry. Did any of these trucks have it? My last 94 had it but it didnt come with the FOBS. i just reprogramed an old set i had and it worked. I will deff check later to see if this truck has the reciever box. But i wanted to see if it was even possible that a 93 came with the.

9. Speedometer adjustment. Im putting 33's on. and im wondering how to go about adjusting the speedo. Would changing the speedo gear in the transmission be the easiest? What one would i need? Part #?

Thats it for now. I know some of them are kind of veg or dumb. but just trying to do some leg work on these issues while i have time. That way this weekend i can hit it hard and fix some of these issues.

Thanks for the advice in advanced.

the door tag or tag on the diff will say if you have an LS out back.

You have the E4OD tranny, only auto available for the bronco from 92-96

does the bronco have dual front shocks? if so then you have the tow package, the reciever hitches doesnt mean anything.

if the window switches dont work check fuses, relays etc.. do a search on this forum for further info.
If the radio face isnt displaying then a new radio is your only option or find a wrecking yard replacement.

not sure about keyless entry

as for the speedo, do a search for PSOM recalibration. you must have specific info about your tires so you can input the correct data. there is no speedo gear to replace.

to fit the 33's pull off the front bumper and starting with a couple washers at a time till you get the right fit.

by the way Welcome to the Forums

thanks, for the welcome. Im not realy new to the forums. Ha but anyways.

Thanks for the awnsers. I was hoping for a little more experiance with similar situations. I have the capeability to do the diagnosing myself, but as im stuck at work for the rest of the week. I figured i would do as much as i can from my office to eliminate possibilitys. ( you never know when someone might say. "oh ya the ford bronco of that year is common to have a wire rub right here .........." Hence why i ask to try and save time. Other wise back to the continuity meter.

I was hoping for specific washer sizes that someone had used. As i can buy some from a hardware store on the way home. How big are the bolts themselves?

Thanks again.

Also on the speedo recal. I did some serching and have a question. My rev/mile per manufacture is 634. That is for a 33" BFG MT KM2. Is that my cal number? Or do i need to recalculate it. I saw someone that had 35 tires had a cal number of 815. Doesnt make much sense.

I think i see whats going on. The conversion constant will be 8.56, but it will show as 856.

This correct?

Revolutions per mile are based on circumference of the tire. If you put a mark on the tread face and roll the tire until the mark comes back around again (to the exact same spot) then measure the distance covered you will have the distance per revolution. Divide 5820 ft. by that measurement and you will have revolutions per mile.

Otherwise, the manufacturers numbers should be accurate. Use the method above or the manufacturers number because the tire diameter is NOT 33" and solving for the circumference by using 33" in the formula will give an incorrect result.

A strong warning about arbitrarily swapping to tires that much larger than stock without re-gearing. You WILL lose passing and climbing power even with the 5.8L. The tires cover more ground per mile effectively reducing engine RPMs below a V8's typical power band especially when your transmission already has an overdrive gear. You will get a lot of 3-4 shift hunting at 35-40 mph as well. You could get lucky and have factory 4.11 gearing but this was an option that had to be ordered so its not as common as the 3.55 gearing that came standard. 4.11: is considerably better for 33's than 3.55:1. Just fair warning for when you wonder where your power went after the new tires are installed.

1. I have LS

2. I have tow package which includes, tranny cooler, oil cooler under the filter, trailer relays and wire harness. I have rear stabilizer. Does NOT have dual shocks nor mounts for them, nor receiver hitch.

8. I have remote entry

9. I used mile markers, watch, and calculator and got my speedometer dead on. Remember you are limited to about six changes in the life of the vehicle. Search with my name.

I'm well aware of the effects of larger tires. Thank you. Had a 92 with 33's, it was fine. Copd air kit really helped it with the 3-4 hunting on hills.

Thanks for the reply.

the stock air intake setup with a drop in K&N filter is the best way to go. stay away from the open elemant cold air setups. not real gains on a stock motor.

as for your rad fluid leak i would start by tightening all of your hoses. there is a small one that runs from the Tstat housing area if i recall and its prone to failing.

not sure what the bolt size was as i lifted my rig to fit the larger tires and never needed to space it out. then went to a custom bumper.

Where are you getting this from???

Anyways.

Turns out the shifter cable is fine. The bolts are loose on the bottom of the steering colomn. But the shift indicator is still clear to the right past 1st gear, cant really even see it. I need to figure out how to fix that.

On your rear window switches. Does the switch click when you move it each way. As if its making contact? Myne doesnt. So im hoping thats why it doesnt work. might be worn out.

My truck does have the quad shock option. So thats good news. Does that mean it has the tranny cooler/ and tow package? I didnt understand when it was posted that if Tow package came with the quad shocks, or if it could be a seperate option.

i dont think it has remote entry. I didnt see a box under neath by my feet for a reciever. Is it possible to add the box in later? Is prewired?

Thanks

sorry, the coolant comment was meant for another post haha. Hate it when i do that.

the tow package generally means dual front shocks, tranny cooler, front/rear sway bars, and trailer wiring.

its common for folks to remove the swaybars and in some cases the front shocks and it still have the tow package.

you will need a rear window switch from a 93 or newer. not sure if the 92 or 91yr will fit and i know that an 88 rear window switch wont work.

it does have front and rear sway bars to. But no obvious wiring for the trailer tow package. Does ford make a 7 pin harness that plugs in back there.

Also the engine temperature never gets past the N on Normal. Any reason for this?

Really. Even over the systems that seperate the engine off and have larger smoother tubes?

Is there any gain at all with a K&N drop in?

the system ford developed pulls cold air in really well already and running a drop in K&N give some more. i dont believe there has been any real documented numbers though.

I dont recall there being a system for our rigs that seperates the open elemant filter from the engine. and if it did where would it get its air from?
