Is there a Diagram of exactly where the OP found his cracked elbow? I too have a high idle (900 from 1500). I was able to get it to lower a little by cleaning the IAC Valve, Throttle Body and MAS.

My Expy is a 97 with the smaller engine (4.6?).

Excellent. I will check it out. Obviously your engine is out but is this the view from the front or rear?

The view is from the front with the intake removed. That's the passenger side valve cover you're seeing.

this may sound stupid, but with the truck running use a section of heater hose to as like a noise amplifier same method as when u put a sea shell to your ear and you hear all the air and not the the actuall noise,put one end to your ear and run that over any area u may think u have a leak, you would aloso be able to hear air bypassin in IAC or possibly your EGR whichshould be closed at an idle. you may wana check that PCV vacum line on the back of the upper intake horn, that sets very close to the firewall and can rub through if worn out by a bit of blow by like me had when it started up its an elbow made of silcone and can deteriorate over time! just a though elimanate any small stuff first!
