53 f100 will mustang bullet wheels work?
Hi. I'm new to this forum. I am building a 53 f100. I have a volare front suspension and 9" rearend with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. Has anyone used a set of bullet wheels off of a mustang? If so could you post some pictures. Also i am going to run a Ho FI 5.0 and an aod transmission. What would be a good radiator to use for this. I have a small budget so any good combinations would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not familiar with the Bullet wheels but it's just a matter of pattern, width, and offset. The front will be harder to fit than the rear. If the wheels aren't more than 7 inches wide, pretty close to zero offset, and a 5 x 4.5 pattern, they should work. How about some pictures of the wheels? Have you made any measurements on any?

I am using the Bullitt Motorsport wheels from American Muscle on my truck. They are for the '05 to '11 Mustang GT and V6. Check out my build progress thread at:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1027402-mustang-ii-on-a-56-pictures-included.html
Specs on the wheels for offset and backspacing are:
Front:18x9 5x4.5 bolt pattern
backspace - 6.3"
offset - +1.3"
Rear:20x10 - 5x4.5 bolt pattern
backspace - 7.2"
offset - +1.8"
With my 1965 HD Ford 9" the 18x9 fit inside the rear fenders with 245/50-18 tires and didn't rub the bed. For the 20x10, they fit inside the fenders but for the 295/35-20 tires to fit I need to tub the bed.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Based on the above information they probably will not work on your truck. I recently tried a smoothie wheel with a 4.75 inch back space on my Volare front suspension and it interferred with the upper ball joint. So, if 4.75 inches is too much then 6.3 will be way too much...
They might fit the rear...

I tried Mustang Bullet wheels on my 56 and the wheels had way too much offset. The offset placed the wheels way to far back against the front suspension and the box sides under the rear fenders. Looked cool, but only if you did not try to drive it that way.

best wheels to use for 53 f100 with volare clip
i was hoping i could buy a set of wheels and tires from a mustang. The wheels i like look like the torque thrust wheels. They come on a lot of mustangs and they call them bullet wheels. They are usually 17 or 18". They are a 5 spoke wheel. The problem is the backspacing is 5.5" to 6.5" usually and not to sure they will work. If anyone is using them let me know or post pictures of cool wheels that will work on this setup. I've got a 9" rearend with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern axles.
thanks

They will fit, but depending on the width of your rear end it is possible you might have to use a spacer (not adapters) or mini tub the bed. The 17" wheels clear the volare upper ball joint fine so that should not be a problem for you. If you know the width of the rearend simple math will tell you what it will take to make them sit were you want in the wheel well. It will also depend on if you are keeping the factory rear spring set up because of the distance the springs stick off the frame you could have clearance issues there. But again spacers should take care of any issues you would encounter, lots of higher horsepower early mustangs are running spacers with the late model mustang wheels without any problems.
Good luck.
P.S. if you put more information like where you are located you will probably find that somebody close would be willing to help you.
Again welcome to the FTE.
