Better Transmission?

Your auto is pry a c6, good trans as far as I've heard. Your 4 speed could be three things, a Borg Warner t-18, t19. Or it could be a new process I think. Anyway, just search those terms in google and you will get plenty of info. Personally t-18 t-19 is about the best trans you can get ever in anything as far as I've heard and in my personal opinion. Pair that up with an overdrive/splitter setup and you have a very sweet rig.

If it's a 3-speed W/OD then it's not a C6. C6's have no overdrive. I believe he means it's a 3-speed manual with overdrive. I could be mistaken on this last part, however.
But yes, I agree that the C6 is pretty much one of the best transmissions Ford has ever produced.
Depending on which transmissions you actually have, crest, the one from the F-350 is most likely going to be MUCH more heavy-duty. Basically it winds up being a question of what you do with your truck. If you pull heavy trailers or load it down so it's squatting on the axle bump-stops, you might think about going with the HD one. If not, I'd probably recommend just leaving what's in there alone.

yes both are manual, i seemed to have left that info out
and im restoring it and looking more towards making it into a street rod, i dont see too many this body style done that way
the tranny that is currently in it needs gone over, its hard gettin it into 3rd and when i bought the truck my brother in law knew a guy with another tranny laying around and i got it for 150, the extra tranny is good and im debating which one to go with
the main reason im asking is because my brother in law was talking to an old friend of his and he suggested keeping the trans in it and just getting it fixed, saying it was a much better transmission
is there an easy way to tell what each transmission is?

Most transmissions should have either a small metal tag riveted to the side somewhere with numbers and/or words on it, or just have numbers cast directly into the metal of the casing. Look around on them both and see what you can find. At the very least there should be a serial number somewhere on them. A lot of times you can google that number and find what tranny it is.

Assuming you want to spend money when you already have two transmissions in your possession, I agree that it would be a better idea to go with either the Mazda (street driving) or the ZF (pulling+overdrive with great durability).
I am a personal fan of the ZF myself... I think it's pretty much the best stick you can put in a Ford.

Get a good condition T-5 out of a V8 powered Mustang and you shouldn't have any trouble putting it in a truck. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the T-5, but if you get one from a 3.8L car, the bushings and input shafts are weaker. You can still USE the one from a V6 car, just don't plan on putting any serious power in front of it.
