My truck has had a slow oil leak for a while now. I finally started looking around to find it. The valley has some oil in it, but in the back. My HPOP looks to be good. The EBPV actuator appears to be the culprit. Is there anything above that that can leak down on the EBPV? What is the easiest fix, gutting it or trying to repair the EBPV? While I have the turbo off and all that, what are other realistic repairs I could/ should do when I am there? Thanks in advance!
Oh, and if it matters, it is a 2002 F-350 with 84k miles, 6637, 4" turbo back, soon to be getting gauges and my PCM flashed (I am too cheap for a chip when I will really only be using 80e anyways). Any other questions?
EBPV or turbo pedestal o-rings are the main culprits. Just pick-up a Turbo Reinstall Kit and an EBPV rebuild kit and you will be good to go. Riffraff Diesel or Diesel O-Rings.com sell them.
Well since you are cheap you could just unplug the ebpv solenoid and that should keep it from leaking because it won't activate. If you want to keep the function rebuild it.
If you go with the 80e pcm flash you should talk to dp tuner first. If you do off roading the pedal can be very sensitive and make it hard to control. Might cost you more in the long run. Also I don't think I would do a lot of heavy towing in that tune. You have pmr rods so that is another thing to consider.
That is what mine looks like, but with a lot more crud on it.
I have talked to DPTuner. They said I should be fine. if I do tow, it is never more than 4k lbs. While I don't like to waste money, I want to make sure I get this fixed right.
When I looked at Riff Raffs piston rebuild kit, it said I might need to hone the cylinder. How common is this?
It depends on how the bore is. Lots of times you just need to replace the seals and it will be good, sometimes the bore has a grove in it that requires honing.
