5.4L engine swap

I've got a 1999 F-150 with a bad motor. Looking to do a swap, what engines will work what will not? Found an engine on craigslist out of a 2000 Econcoline. What do I need to know before diving into this project? Any help will be appreciated, I'm old school give me something with a carb and ditributor I'll make it fit anywhere.

You should be able to make the van motor work without to much work.
You might need to swap the intake-manifold off your 99 on to the 2000 and a few other things.

I thought the heads on a '99 mod motor are different from the 2000? Something about PI heads from 2000 onwards------maybe I'm mistaken?

I'm in Columbus, Ohio selling a '98 5.4 gas with 89K miles that should work for the '99 years as well. Its listed both on local Craig's List and here in the Classified Ad section.

Sorry in advance if my "thoughts" about the heads are incorrect!

The F-150 got the PI heads in 99.
Not sure about the van

Thanks for the input guys, little update the truck is actually a 2000. F-150 7700 4x4 auto. I just bought the truck so I wasn't sure at first. So... I am condsidering the motor I found from the van. That being said, same model year sould this be a straight forward swap? Things that I think about are differences in wiring, exhaust manifolds, oil pan, fuel lines/location?

I never looked at the van motor, but yeah. Should work without having to change much.
And anything you have to swap around you have on your motor now so you shouldn't need to buy any parts.
As long as they both have the PI heads that is.

Is there any way to visually tell the PI heads from the earlier years, without dismantling anything too far?

If you can get to them, right above the exhaust manifold, the head will be stamped with a PI and some other numbers.
