The eco is 4by4 and mixed city/hwy with hills and such is so far between 17.5-19 sometimes I stomp on it just because I like to see how fast pichup is. Mydiehard chevy friend was very impressed with power his words were holly **** that's a 6 cylinder. If anybody lives around zip 12838 come check it out and I will take you for a ride.

What type of oil will everyong be putting in their Ecoboost? I currently put Amsoil or Mobil 1 in all of my vehicles. My local wally world has the motorcraft 5w20 and 5w40 but no 5w30. So I may be using the same in my new ecoboost.

I have about 600 miles on my Eco, SuperCab with 3:73 and Max Tow, XLT and got between 17 and 20 around town MPG. Taking a 4hour trip south soon on the highway pulling a enclosed trailer. Will see then. Love the truck!

When I get my new truck, I'm thinking about using Castrol synthetic. I've used Mobil1 for many years with excellent results but recently switched back to MC oil. I keep reading too much about Mobil1 not being the high quality oil they used to be and it has me a little concerned.

I don't foresee Wally carrying MC 5W-30 for just one Ford application.

Not trying to derail this into an oil argument, just splainin' myself.

Tim,
I've been using the Mobil 1 for years with good results so far, is the MC 5w-30 synthetic as well? I'm seriously considering the EcoBoost and expected I would use a good quality synthetic oil in it too.

I use Royal Purple, and every mechanic I have talked to has sworn it is very good oil. I hear mixed thoughts on Amsoil though.

I think for the money, any MC oil is the best way to go.

From what I've been told MC is made by Castrol.

Anyone know what oil the ecoboost on the test videos used?

I would think the MC 5W30 blend!

Also at what interval did they change the oil in that engine.

Thanks.

Yes I did. Was a little put off by the numbers. 10 - 11 mpg going a posted speed limits with a 6 X 12 v-nosed trailer. Was expecting 14 - 16 range?? I will be pulling my 27ft travel trailer next month. We will see then.

Now it has a reset function on the instant mpg screen. Now I did reset it at the start of my trip. I did have the power when I needed to pass anyone. Also It did pull very nice felt no drag. I do have a bed cover to.

The motor also gets very, very hot! No need for the defrost or cabin heat!
Over all still like the truck!

!

Hopefully the AC will be able to compensate during the hottest summer months.

How heavy was the trailer? I wouldn't think this engine would get 14-16 towing very much weight. My 5.4L got around 9.5 mpg towing 6500 lbs (this is 1-2 mpg less than my 7.3 diesel with the same load). I would be surprised if it got the mileage of the diesel but would think it would get at least the mileage of the 5.4L. Hopefully when the tuning gets out for these the mileage will increase.

I wish we could compare the Ecoboost vs the 5.0 mileage wise towing the same trailer...

Yes I was a little shocked to. My 08' 5.4L got 9mpg pulling my 7000lb travel trailer. Now I am right back to 17.5 - 20 mpg normal driving. I will be pulling my travel trailer later this month. Will see then.

I to hope the mileage will as it breaks in a little more plus I did not due the mpg on paper. I should have. Using the electronic screen can be deceiving with being able to reset it. Must work the bugs out of operator error to.

Over all I do like it a lot. I am going to stop by the dealership and asked about the heat issue. That motor gets hot! You can feel it in the cab. I know that sounds weird. Maybe another break in thing??

Still learning!

I have noticed with my eco the heater does work awsome and rear window defrost is nice especialy in upper ny. The heat is very hot when on but when I turn temp dial to cooler it does change. I don't know if yours does if not might be the prob.my 7.3 desiel has that prob its all hot or turn it off, the control for temp from cooler to hotter is broke. I hope this winter lets go soon so we won't need heat.
