Oily residue around intercooler hoses

It is completely normal. The Crank Case Vent (CCV) vents into the intake and it then coats your intercooler boots in oil inside and out.
You can re-route the hose to prevent what you saw there from happening again. It isn't as complicated as this write-up makes it sound due to the fact that he is adding an optional part (the filter)
Welcome to guzzle's CCV mod web page
You can run the hose directly to the atmosphere if you so desire. That's how I have mine run.
The gist if the mod is just putting a 4" piece of pipe in where the factory CCV inlet was, flipping the direction of the doghouse, and running a hose over the master cylinder to the atmosphere.

Never be afraid to ask a question.

Yes I know. This forum has been a god send and a pain, only because of all the mods and fixes and etc., kind of overwhelming being new to diesels. Being a factory trained tech (Honda), and working on those for 20+ years, I know enough to want to take care of everything, which is why my turbo is on the bench as I fix exhaust leaks around the dreaded up pipes.
Guzzle and Riff Raff seem to have most issues covered.
