No luck fishing for the spring. There is no way it would come back thru the block side even if you were lucky enough to snare it. So, I fished around with some wire thru the drain plug but didn't have any luck nor did I even hear any sign I'd nudged it. Does anyone have a picture/diagram of the inside of the drain pan? I suspect it's hung up on the baffle but it'd be nice to see how the baffle is configured to give me a better idea as to how to go about fishing for the dang thing. Makes me wonder that since I had the spring pointed the wrong way when trying to re-install if it fell out of the header before I got it lined up with the block and it never made it into the pan at all. It's a possibility.....as light as that spring is, I'd have never heard it hit the ground and a spring may not wind up close to where it landed.
Maybe this pics helps you a little and I added a pic of the valve apart.
This is an edited pic and as you can see, the bottom of inside the pan looks like a double part, because outside the pan is flat, so fishing something there I think its very difficult, more that little spring so good luck. I hope this really helps you
From the pics above(which are really good) I find it hard to be able to fish that spring out from the dipstick flange hole.If it did fall into the lower sump the way that pan is made you might never have a problem with that spring. You may find it in later oil changes possible and who knows,it may end up in your in oil filter.Stranger things have happened here.
You could be right about it not even making it to the block.
It can't end up in the filter without going through the lpop, and cooler first. That would suck. It would never get through the pickup screen though. He'll have to buy another rear cooler header if he doesn't find it though. That's the biggest reason I suggested fishing for it.
If I had one laying around I would have sent it to you so no way to know. I doubt it's stainless though. I've never made any from stainless spring stock before or seen it. It's possible though. I think I picked mine up with the magnet sweeper once though when it bounced into the yard. It was one of those springs but I forget which. It took me several hours to find it. That's when I threw the 94 header in the trash.
Not trying to offend here, just asking and trying to help anyway I can.I deal with s/s,nickel,alloy 20,hastaloy and many other high dollar metals.I know how hard it is to pick up metals that do not stick to a magnet.
I think Brad is in the process of finding the new style head?
Yes I am. Clay is on Pacific Time so I can't call him until after 10:30 CST. I'm already so hung up on this I might as well have an extra day or two of downtime if it will save me some money. The extra cost either way will add insult to injury.
If I have to buy a new header, will the later version with the clip fit my '95? Also, can anyone help with locating the part number for the clipped and unclipped versions?
