My 97 has 201K on the clock, and as it had 163K on it when I got it I have no knowledge if the injectors have been changed before I got it. Any way after it gets warmed up it lacks power. It will rev up to around 2200 then stumble for a while then maybe build revs to 2600 then kick in and rev to 3000. If doing this while not moving it will pour white smoke while stumbling. Searching back posts this points to the o-rings on the injectors. I thaught maybe it was the map sensor, so I unpluged the ele. connector, and it ran better, so replaced the map with one from my parts truck, and it was better but not cured.
The exhaust smells "rich", and my fuel milage went to pot. Am I on the right track or am I way off base?
If it is the o-rings, I thought I should just replace the injectors because of the milage on the truck.
I know Jim sells a good product, but like everyone else, money is a little tight. Has anyone used rebuilt inj. from Thoroubred Diesel in Kentucky? It looks like I culd save about 300 on the oem spect rebuilds. I like the sounds of Jims rebuilds with the new plunger and barrels, so maybe I should anti up for them. Any comments?
I don't know if I would do the injectors unless you wanted to upgrade them to bigger injectors.
I would do the O-rings, GP's and rebuild the fuel filter housing+FPR together at the same time.
Thanks for the replys.
I guess I haven't heard of the IPR sticking, is that a remove and clean type thing or replace? I unpluged it and no oil in the plug, so that part is good. This morning I went to feed the cattle, about 5 miles away, and had a hell of a time trying to get it up to 65 on the highway. Got to the other place were the cattle are, shut it off and took the tractor to feed. Came back to the truck and it ran like nothing was wrong. So maybe it's not the Injector o-rings. Checked the fuel filter and it was clean, no oily mess.
Would the IPR show a code if it was sticking? I dont have anything to pull codes, so would have to go to the dealer for that.
From what I read on here IPR can be cleaned and new O-rings.
Will run with ICP unplugged. Won't run with IPR unplugged.
Make sure the IPR tin nut is not loose. If you need pictures of where these are located someone can post them I'm sure, Just say if you need them.
After a little more research on where the IPC was located, I found out what I was checking was not the IPC. Anyway The ICP is leaking oil out the plug in, so a new one is on order. $177 I hope it cures it.
Farmert, I have seen them for 70 on ebay so If money is tight that is an option. Just bought one of these myself. don't think it's your problem though.
As far as your warm running problem, I'd change the IPR orings or replace (Your second post to me points to a sticking IPR). They can be cleaned if your up for it but don't have a like to the guide. If it's not the IPR then probably Injector orings.
Brooks, Thanks for the links, unfortunatly I got the IPC today and it is installed all ready. The truck hasn't miss a lick since Sunday. I hate intermintant problems.
Hope it fixes your problem. By the way here's the link to taking the IPR apart. Don't put the pipe wrench on the threads like in the pic. Put it on the smooth part just above them.
