im getting two conflicting methods here. im about to rebuild the spiders/trac-lok in my rear end and i was wanting to take the carrier out to make it easier to work on. some of the people i know say i can take it out and put it right back in as long as i put the same amount of shims in on both sides. but good ol pops says i need to reset the backlash and/or bearing preload? so whats the deal. i dont know from personal experience because ive never done this before.
backlash and tooth pattern are controlled by pinion and ring gear positon. as long as you dont move the shims, things should not change... but always a good idea to recheck pattern...... If you are building new, and the pattern is off a little, you move shims one side to the other, and the pattern changes some much with respect to original.. Your assuming original is the base line, it cant vary everytime you take it out.
Hey, no problem. And thanks.
I saw that on another site that someone posted the other day so I added it to my favorites list on my PC.
I knew it would come in handy for a lot of people.
