My truck has been having difficultly starting, even when I fully charge my batteries I has trouble starting, most of the time I need to use starting fluid to get it going (I know you're not supposed to use it). Anyway, I assumed my batteries are low, but then driving home today my battery gauge kept getting lower and lower, Just as I got to my drive way, my stereo turned off. I'm assuming that in addition to bad batteries I have a bad alternator? Anything else this could be or any good ways to test for this? Thanks.
You most likely need an alternator .. If you have it running & can unhook both neg cables & it stalls , the alt is bad .. take it t an auto parts store .they can test it
When mine crapped out ,it did exactly what you described ....
Agree, maybe the alternator is bad, but first check all the connections in the batteries, starter, grounds and the connectors in the upper part behind the alternator, maybe they are loose or open. good luck.

What i was told years ago,if you put a tester across the battery terminals you should get somewhere over 13.5 volts, the amperage is set by the way it is wound, voltage is set by the regulator. i mite be wrong, but this is the way i have checked my vehicles out.
