Drop axle plan "B", no Plan "C".

In my build thread I posted that I would be replacing the stock axle with a 3 inch drop axle. The swap went fairly smooth. In addtion to the swap I removed 2 leafs from the stack and added gas shocks. Then late last summer going from one car show to another and the first time in bumper to bumper traffic. The "perfect storm" I hit a pot hole the same time I hit the brakes. The brakes locked-up and the springs allowed the axle to roll over. The end result was; bent tie rod drops, drag link, axle and both shock covers dented. The dents on the back of the shock cover confirms the axle roll over.

I think I'd try replaceing the leafs to see how that works first - Along with the bent ends and links.

If you want to keep the lowered axle and your current spring setup, what you might want to do is fab an anti-wrap bar at each front spring, something similar to that some of the drag racers use on rear axles.

A mount at the spring pad or U-bolt, a rod with swivel ends, and a bracket at the frame to anchor it. Set up right it will allow full suspension travel but will prevent axle roll. It does not need to be above teh spring, but can be along side on the inboard side.

Did you use one of those tube drop axles or an original one stretched?

Thanks all for the suggestions, but this is what I've done so far. Put the stock axle back in, removed the tie rod drops, replaced the drag link and installed Poise Dual Flex springs. Now that I've had a chance to drive it with new springs, I'd have to say the ride quality is much improved. Poise claims a lower ride height, I would say thats true over stock. Now the stance just isn't quit right, so Sid is making me a two inch drop axle. That should put me back to the ride height before the little bump.

One from Sid. I have to say that Sid has been nothing but helpful thru this whole thing, and a real stand-up guy.
