i have a 74 f100 4x4 shortbed with manual steeting it came with a 360 originally but the guy I bought it from put in a 300 inline which I love but no nothing about. I found the numbers BJ18 on the passenger side of the block what do they represent, and can anyone tell me if the 74 f100 4x4 came with power steering I'm getting very tired off thumbs up on the wheel when I take it offroad. thanks

(a former Ford parts guy). First the switch to the 300 is a move you wont regret, guarantee it ! The "Bji8" is meaningless mostly. the actual block number would be 6015. a pre-fix like maybe DFTE then the basic 6015 then a suffix like AA. Likely it's DFTE-6015-AA. Dunno Scottie if the 74 came with p/s as an option or not. Probably did though. You could bone-yard the P/S with anything off a 73-79 and it will fit. Go for the Saginaw pump though. I have one and all I gotta do is barely touch the wheel to make a corner, a good (and reliable) set-up.

X2 on the Saginaw pump. You can find it on any of the Econoline vans from the early eighties with the 300. Take the bracket with it.

Just take the PS pump bracket. There's only an $8 core charge on a reman pump at Napa. Spend another $30 for a new high pressure hose and you're golden.

The bracket I got off an E150 w/ a 300 and A/C looks so tidy on my Bronco and there's not a hint of groan or effort in the steering anymore.

still puzzled

The problem I've been having is finding the same mounting holes on a power box that are the same as the manual box do they even exist I've looked at 73 thru 78 the power box mounts in the same spot but the hole position is totally different. Will I have to weld a plate on and drill new holes or is there something out there that might work. Thanks for everyones help.
