Will it work??

I have an 89 f-150 with 4.9. It has lots of miles and I have been thinking about replacing it. I have found an 83 or 84 F-150 that has a rebuilt 4.9 with low miles that I can get CHEAP. How much trouble is it to swap the older carb engine over to fuel injection?

Other than a couple on side of the head for the EFI manifolds all the bolt holes are in the same place. It would be plug and play.

I'd take the head from the '89 for a valve job and use it, though, to keep the fast burn and pump up the compression a bit.

Yup, what Baron said.

The other thing you'll have to do is block off the fuel pump hole on the driver's side of the engine. The carb engine has a mechanical pump in the block whereas the EFI has it in the tank.

Ok thanks guys. So you think easiest /best way would be to take the head from the FI engine and put it over on the other block? Not sure yet if I want to tackle this but truck I found is an 86 4x4 4sp and the engine is rebuild with less than 30,000 mi. Believe I may be able to get it for $300.
