New Mobil Oil Brand Names

Seems that Mobil is renaming it's low end oil, eliminating their semi-synthetic recipe & adding a synthetic recipe that won't be dexos-1 licensed & positioned below Mobil-1 in performance.

SO, Mobil clean used by Dealers & quick change lube shops & Mobil Clean 5000 & 7500, thats been available to us at retail outlets, become Mobil Super & Super Synthetic, or some such renaming malarky.

Mobil Clean 5000 and 7500 have been duds in the retail market. Its about time they revamped the product line below Mobil One. What a cheaper full-syn will do for them, im not sure, but it meets the specs for new Honda and Toyota vehicles in 0W-20 grade. It may already be Honda factory fill, as American Honda has contracts with ExxonMobil for lubricants.

As more new cars are using full-syn as factory fill, so there is a building market for less expensive full synthetics for servicing them. Has Ford gone to 0W-20 in any 2011's? GM is going its own way with Dexos-1, which requires a super-premium full synthetic, like Mobil One Extended Performance or Pennzoil Platinum, the two current Dexos-1 licensed name brands in the USA.

Still 5w-20 for all the 2011 NA gassers I've seen. They spec a Semi Synthetic.

Just ran across a VOA on the new recipe Mobil Super 5W-30. I don't see anything to get excited about, looks kinda wimpy to me. We'll just have to wait & see some UOA's to find out how it holds up over time, in different engines, in different parts of the country, under different kinds of driving habits
