i have an 04 f250, never had the pleasure of changing ball joints in a 4x4 not to mention it's been 17 years since i've had to do any ball joints. Any tips or tricks i'll need to know?

Use the search function and/or look in the tech folder. You will find step by step instructions and tons of pictures.
As ZeroTucker said, there are many great write-ups on ball joint replacement. Here is one of my favorites from 1975StroppeBaja's Super Duty Tech Articles website:
I just realized how often I reference this site in my responses. I guess that he's done a great job on his website! Hopefully one of these days I'll use it for my own repairs or mods instead of just referring other people to it.
One thing about the 4x4 - don't skimp, with the amount of stuff requiring dis-assembly just to get to the ball joints it pays to use top quality parts. While you're in there give everything a good looking over since it'll all be apart anyway. Best tip - use anti-sieze btw the hub assembly (bearing unit) and the axle and brake heat/dust shield. Makes getting things back apart later waaaay easier.

That just reminded me of when I did my ball joints. Was getting everything buttoned up and putting the brake caliper back on. Thought it looked weird. Turned around and saw the brake dust shield laying on the counter. Live and learn.

I appreciate the kind words!
Good luck to the OP on the ball joint job! It can be a pain but alot of us on here have done it. Definitely go with greaseable ones whatever brand you pick.
