what tranny

sorry for the dumb question but i'm trying to find out what tranny my truck has, the code on the sticker say k, but i can't find out what that means, its an 87 f 250

Code "K" is a C-6. Keep it, it is the best automatic transmission going!

so would that be a worth while thing to do, i heard it helps the life of the tranny as well, is this true?
