IMHO, the extended warranty is a fantastic deal but only if:'
a) you get it from Ford (not 3rd party)
b) sharp discount on list price
Easy: order it via Partsguyed.com and he will give you a great deal
c) The most comprehensive warranty up to the time / mileage you intend to keep the vehicle
Premium care... or whatever... is the way to go.
Too many gadgets, too much things like wiring harnesses, etc. that are going too soon.
Premium care means the instrument panel ($$$) is covered, so is AC, all the little gadget boxes that are $$$, or even such things as little bitty relays.
Often, the cost is not just in the covered part, but the diagnostics time to find it.
If you have premium coverage, you stick it in their hearing organ, and let them deal with it after paying the deductible.
If they don't fix it right the first time for the same problem, there is no second deductible --- you just make them do it right.
Any dealer can sell any owner an actual Ford ESP plan, and any dealer has to honor it.
I found the cheapest online was from Ziegler Ford. I just Googled Ford ESP plan and they were one of the featured vendors that popped up. The site might have been FordESP.com, can't remember for sure.
7/100000 premium care with standard rental car and 100 ded. was $1685.00 for 350 4x4 diesel.
I just figured it was worth it for the amount of non power train possibilities mine has.
I had an ESP on my 2008 and sent it back to Lombard Ford when I traded for the 2011. They contacted me right away and gave me credit on a new ESP plan for the 2011 F250. After the credit, my cost for 100k coverage was a little less than $1000 - I figure that is good insurance for some of the high-tech stuff if it breaks. I can only imagine what Ford would charge to replace something like the nav system, etc.
7/75k ESP premium care, $100.00 ded with rental. $1200.00-I didn't see the need for 100k for me because my last truck was an 02 and sold it last month with 80k on it. I will drive it less than 10k/year.
