Are you a 4x4? Im looking to change my 3.73 for 410 or 430 and go for a tru trac in the rear. How much did parts/labor run you?

Mine is a 4x2, and I'm sorry to say I think I got a little "shafted" in the price of my gear swap.... For the 4.30 gears + a Ford Posi, I paid just under $1000, labor included.

My regret is not springing for the Detroit Tru-Trac!

I was looking for a similar all manual, even the door locks. I put my money into the options that count, CC, V10, 4x4 and left out the usual creature comfort type stuff that I dont really care about anyhow.

Couldnt find hardly anything used or new so I ordered. Very happy with the truck. Only a couple minor complaints about the XL, but I plan on upgrading those things later.

Funny thing is, as rare as these trucks are, there are several in the family. 3 of them are manual / 5.4 / 4x4 but I think most are 5spd, one might be 6 speed, and then there is mine too. And a couple diesels, one 6 spd and one auto.

When I bought my truck in Dec 2003, I had looked all over the west coast and no V10/6speeds were available anywhere. So, I spec'd it the way I wanted it, ordered it and never been happier. 2004XL SC F250 shortbox, 4x4, 6 speed, V10, 4.30 axles, manual transfer case, manual hubs, back seat delete (saved $500), with all heavy duty options I could find. I tow a 16k pound boat back and forth to the water every year and it has never missed a beat. Towing distance is less then 20 miles and speeds are usually 55mph max. Nothing like the power of a V10, 6speed and 4.30 gears to get you going. I run the 315x75Rx16 tires with no problems and pull a regular 14.8 -15.2mpg running at 68-72mph cruising 2000-2200 RPM's. 46k on the speedo so far. Should last me many years. Oh almost forgot, paid $28,658 out the door after rebates, discounts and a few "got up to walks"!

i really wish that ford hadn't discontinued all manual transmissions in trucks.
you cant even get a half ton with a manual any more.
dodge has one, but i've heard (through the grapevine, no direct sources) that they are not very good transmissions for real truck use.

I got mine last year.. Its a 2003 F250 XL with a V10 manual trans, man transfer case and hubs. It only had 71,000 miles on it and it in great shape. The only thing it needs is a locker rear end. It was ordered with speed control and tilt wheel and chrome front and rear bumpers/grill. Its a real nice looking white truck. I just put the OEM foglights in and going to do the overhead console next month.. It took me about 3 months to find it and it was 85 miles away.. And while i was there ended up buying the wife a 2009 Taurus LTD... It was an expensive day...

I looked for a long time to find the truck that I wanted, very hard to find. I was looking for a Crew Cab/short bed 4x4 XLT with V10/6spd manual, and manual 4wd. I found this exact truck last spring and scooped it up the same day. I have yet to find another with the same setup in my price range since, so I'm glad I got it when I did. I live in PA, and we get a fair amount of snow, and I prefer the stick for control in the snow. Plus, I'd much rather shift my own gears. My previous truck was an 05 F150 with auto trans that I bought new and had for 5 years. I liked the truck, but always missed shifting gears, and was never very confident in the snow with it. I'm not sure if I get any better mileage, but the fun factor is a lot higher.

I looked for two years for the truck i bought last month. 2006 F-250 lariat, crew cab, long box, V10, 6spd manual, manual t-case. found it used in kenai, Alaska with 21500 miles on it. I live in Anchorage so it was only 300 mile round trip to get it. On the way home i found out that the front center seat belt still had the rubber band on it... i love my new truck. Dark blue two tone with chicken lights and everything.
I would really like to know how many of these trucks were made. I saw someone else on here put that they dont know how to drive an auto lol. I tell people that all the time. the car salemen get a kick out of it.

I bought an '02 with manual trans, V10, cc, sb, and manual windows. It was an ex-forest svc truck. Had some dents and dings in the body, but engine compartment and interior was very clean. I think, in general, most gov't vehicles are fairly well maintained.

They come up for auction on the GSA internet auction site sometimes.

Funniest thing I've seen all week! Thanks...

KEEP LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT TRUCK! You'll find something perfect. Use allofcraigs.com to search CL nationally in one search.

Since a lot of you guys are ZF6ers you might want to check out these links. Some good pics from time to time.

Sending unit plate.

Replacing my ZF6 with a BRAND NEW one, not rebuilt like from Ford. Turned out GREAT and I still have my original one. Also swapped in an external cooler and filter. Very happy.

FD... just looked over your swap and wanted to say nice job! Hope I dont ever have to do that extensive of a swap, but like you mentioned I plan on keeping mine forever so who knows. I probably ought to have a spare handy since I dont know how much longer you can get one!

One thing that was mentioned was they did some updates in 05-07 was that for all ZFers or just the diesel? I know a few of my friends with 99-02's all have some synchro problems. Was hoping they made some improvements by 09.

Thanks! I'm getting a little bit of a click into 3rd when it's cold. It seems they've made it a little easier to get into L or R though.
