Something just happened to my clutch and its probably not good

Guys and gals-

Just got in the truck to go to work. When I pressed in the clutch (LUK with 150k on it) to start it, it seemed like it was a bit stiff for a second then something gave way and it got much easier. Much easier. It now works, but the engagement is way high in the pedal throw meaning I barely have to press the clutch to disengage. Not sure if I'm getting full engagement but it seems like it.

What broke? I swear I heard something give way... I'm hoping it has something to do with the hydraulics or push rod. I changed out the hydraulic setup about 8 years and 150k miles ago.

Dad's on his way down to loan me his PSD (yeah the one that got a new trans in Montana this summer) so I'm not quite dead in the water.

sounds like you broke that stupid plastic clip. do a search on here and you'll be back on the road in no time. you can either replace the clip or put a heim joint on it.

Interested as well, as to the location of this "clip". Tried the "search", but came up empty. If you got the know-how or link, that would be great....i'm all about preventative maintenance.

If the clutch pedal came up to almost the dash then that is your issue... If not maybe something more serious...

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think my pedal is rising much higher, but the helper spring broke off and fell on the floor a few years ago. Maybe it's the same problem. I'll tear it apart and let y'all know what I find...

OK. I bought the little clip thing and also a new Master/Slave assembly. I was planning on replacing the hydraulics with the ZF6 in a few months anyway. I'll try the clip first...

If the pedal didn't come up further, I'd say you bent your clutch fork Andy.

Pull your slave cylinder and stick a tape measure in the hole to touch the fork.

Here's what mine measures.

JP- Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. He shows you everything but how to take the clip off! I honestly can't remember if I did that when I replaced the hyd assy last time. Anyone know the trick? I'm thinking of removing the PCM since there's not much room for my XL hands.

Dan- I always feel better if you're in on a thread!

Chris and Nolan- I measured just to be sure and it looks the same. I replaced that fork about gosh 8 years ago or so when I put in the LUK. Tried for about 5 mins to turn the slave the wrong way. Good isometric workout I guess!

Gonna grab a Pacifico and ponder (watch the thread) for a few then decide a plan. Most likely going to install my new Master/Slave assy and clip since that's the parts I came home with.

Let me know your thoughts?

Oh. Also going to pop the hood and look for evidence. Some junk, mostly dirt lookin' stuff and very small chunks like small rocks fell out of the slave hole in the bell. That slave cyl does look "weathered" to say the least. Not sure if that means anything though... Tip of the slave rod looked good.
