i finally got my truck running after a year and im getting ready for inspection and i installed new tail lights but im having problems with the signal lights, when i flip the switch to the left signal it doesnt blink it just stays lit and when i flip it to the right it does the samething except it doesnt light up on the instrument panel like it does when i flip it to the left, how can i fix this?
its something in the wiring thats not right cause i tried messing with it a while ago and i got it to blink but the reverse light bulb was the one blinking and when i step on the break the left tail light gets brighter and the right one turns off
Alright, that sounds like either a wiring fault in the rear harness or a ground issue with the rear lamps.
You will have to remove the taillamp assemblies and check the ground. Are the taillamp assymblies still bright metal or are they rusted up? Check and clean the ground wire eyelits if applicable, and clean the metal lamp housings so they get a good connection with the body. Does the truck have aftermarket trailer lamps wires? If so, check where the connections meet for crossed circuts.
Try unplugging the rear light harness from the frame rail harness and use a tester and see if there are any crossed circuts from the frame rail harness forward toward the cab.
Well if you absolutely want to pass inspection you could just pull the switch. Mine was in my glove box so it was hidden anyway, but if you pull it would look like the truck was not equipped them so from there they could not test it for flashers. But once you pass i would start digging through the wiring and look for a faulty wire or connection
1967/72: The emergency 4 way flasher switch is mounted inside the glove box. All these trucks came with the 4 way flashers as standard equipment.
And there are TWO different flashers: One for the turn signals, another for the 4 way flashers.
Both look the same (have two prongs), but the 4 way flasher is a H/D unit.
The H/D flasher can be substituted for the turn signal flasher (std equipment on Camper Specials), also installed for people that were deaf, as it has a louder CLICK, but...
The turn signal flasher should not be used in place of the H/D flasher.
