I got my truck stuck in a snow bank and exploded the transfer case trying to get un-stuck.. Holes in both sides.. Brought it to the dealer today. I miss my truck!!!
ummmm are we seeing a pattern, the chain failed in my tcase as well however I am 90% sure it was going to fail anyway because it made a very very very faint noise in 4x4 the day before the failure. this is the second t case just with guys on this forum that I know of that has failed in a similar way, well I guess there can't really be any other way for it to fail.
lets not forget these are a different t case and made by a different company albeit they bought out new venture gear than what was used before.

I just found your thread on your failure. The scenario was almost identical. Except for the faint noise. The guys at Ford looked at me like I had tied chains to a buldozer and had a tug of war..
once the 4x4 is engaged I don't see anything a guy could do to cause undo stress short of having part of the truck on drive pavement or trying to pull someone out of the ditch while being on dry pavement and yanking the crap out of it. I think common sense applies here. you know if you abused it or not, as for me I know dang well I didn't.
It's ironic that these failures (let's hope very limited) as one of the '11 Super Duty promotional videos shows a rig tearing a*s up a pretty decent incline in a field with the front tires spinning turf up all over the place. Here's to hoping the warranty covers the failure (I'm sure it will) and that these are ISOLATED failures and not part of a larger trend.
Remember that these t-cases, like the rest of the powertrain, are designed to handle the full output of the 6.7L engine. Just like the rear axle, driveshaft, and transmission, you should have to do something REALLY stupid to it to cause it to fail.

Anything else is simply a defective component.
Great point. Let's hope that these issues are isolated, and if there is a greater concern here regarding reliability of the T-case....Ford knows about it and has already fixed the issue on new rigs. I find myself in snow a lot, banks, unplowed roads with 20"+ on the ground, and there arent phones or reception for mobile devices so when I do make my move on a 2011 or '12...it doesn't leave my family stranded in 2wd in the middle of gods country. I'm not going to drive beyond the vehicles means, I have a lot of experience with 4x4 of all types, but two cases from regulars on this forum has me a little antsy.
