it worked just fine before all that in previous thread, now it doesn't have any power to it at all. I checked the fuse, pulled the radio back out to check for connectivity and examine the wiring. all looks as it should. also the headlight **** lost it's ability to turn on the courtesy lights, headlights work when pulled, but turning **** all the way doesn't turn on dome anymore, which isn't a big deal to me, only mentioned it in case it's somehow related.
What sort of dash work did you do? If it was a bunch of painting, you may have to scrap some of it off to get a good ground to the radio.
the only dash work I did was take the top off and paint it, took the screws out of the bottom section, but decided against removing and put the screws back in. I did remove the radio while dealing with the issues from previous thread, when I put it back in is when it no longer worked. do these radios have a fuse in them that may have blown when all the other stuff shorted out?
oh, and my headlight **** does turn on the dome light, I don't know what I was thinking earlier, or if it didn't work earlier it does now.
The radios ground through the cases. Disconnect the harness from the radio and put a volt
meter on it and see if you get voltage on the yellow/black-hash wire with the ignition in
RUN or ACC.
My guess is a bad ground from the case to the dash support frame.
Does the truck have the Engine to firewall ground in the engine compartment by any chance? This can cause all sorts of weird grounding issues if it's not connecting very well or if its missing.
The main dash ground, grounds where it bolts to the side of the cab. If the metal is rusty you may need to add a ground wire from the dash metal support to the firewall.
There is also a ground wire that attaches to the dash metal frame, to the right of where the radio rear mount, mounts to the dash. Make sure that ground is clean and tight also, as it's a major ground for a lot of componets.
per ctubutis's advice, I checked the yellow/black dashed wire for power, and discovered it had slid out of the harness. I couldn't see the wiring to the radio on the wiring diagram, so I had no idea what I needed to look for. Thank you ctubutis, while radio isn't a necessity, it sure makes driving more enjoyable.
I still would clean all of your dash grounds. It may help with your intermittant problems.
I did check those while I had it all apart, was so excited when I fixed the issue, guess I forgot to mention that part of it. Thanks for the suggestion, I did brush a little surface rust away and made sure everything was tight.
