ok for the past day or 2 I have noticed a ticking sound while in idle...I couldn't hear it while I was driving but it may still be happening... so i went to check it out and i open the hood with the engine running and there is a spark shooting out of the coil wire...
Its not shooting to anything metal, it looks like it is jumping to itself or a rubber hose that was running alongside of it.
What causes this?
Will getting a new wire fix it?
There was some corrosion under the wire.
Also could this cause any kind of rough idle or slipping while driving because the engine mis-fires or something, or do I have something wrong with my trans too.
So what do I do? Sorry for the long one...Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Insulation probably is cracked....new set of wires should cure the problem...should replace the set because if one is breaking down they probably all are close.....and yes it could cause a miss
Something like this happened to me also.
turns out the center spring loaded button on the inside of the distrubutor cap had burned through the metal tab on the rotor and, of course, the wires were bad...and at night (especially if it was damp out) it looked pretty scary under the hood.
